Christen Harer, MSN, PMHNP

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Christen Harer is a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with over 10 years of psychiatric experience. She provides comprehensive treatment for a wide variety of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders (depression and bipolar), anxiety disorders, ADHD, thought disorders, and substance use. She is passionate about treatment of psychiatric conditions during the perinatal and postpartum period.

Christen provides compassionate care with a collaborative approach. Treatment goals will be set in the initial appointment following a comprehensive assessment and updated as needed. Treatment is always tailored to the individuals’ needs but usually combines medication and therapy. Christen utilizes multiple therapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and supportive therapy.

Christen is an Iowa native but considers Madison her home. She attended Winona State University for undergrad and attended graduate school at Rush University in Chicago, IL. She is board certified by the ANCC and is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She has worked in a variety of psychiatric settings including inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient.
